In past days, Baelym was a conman posing as an entertainer for Lysith’s family. He used the cover-up to steal expensive items within the citadel and pawn them off for money. When he was finally caught, instead of throwing him in prison, Lysith turned him into an imp, and ordered him to keep an eye on Xiris and to do all his reading, writing, and mathematics when the need called for it. Doomed to retain his imp form for 500 years, Baelym has become very bitter despite the massive extension to his natural lifespan. Xiris picks on him all the time and takes advantage of his availability whenever possible.
