Synopsis:  Midna is the princess of the Twilight Realm, and so her father has arranged for her marriage to a well-off man she has never met before in her life, and has forbidden her to have relations with other men during the engagement period. So what happens when Midna finds herself having feelings for Zant, the eccentric and rebellious son of her father’s military advisor?

Author’s Note: This fanfic takes place previous to the storyline of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, up to the point where Zant receives his powers from Ganondorf, spirals into madness, usurps the throne, and turns the residents of the Twilight Realm into an army of dangerous monsters.

When I was playing the game, I was very unsatisfied with the lack of background information for some of the characters (especially Midna and Zant), so I wrote this fanfic to fill in some of the blanks of what their lives might have been like before all hell broke loose in the Twilight Realm. For example: how Midna became the leader of the Twilight Realm, why Zant became the insane villain that he is and whether he was always that way, etc.

Also, as is mentioned in the above description, this fanfic involves an intimate and romantic relationship between Zant and Midna. I know that most of the Legend of Zelda fandom hates this pairing, and consider it “non-canon”, “impossible”, “gross”, or they just don’t like it because they are a fan of Midna being with Link or some other character. Well, tough. I, along with a large handful of Zelda fans, think that this pairing could go somewhere, although not entirely in the context of the original game. I am also a pseudo-Link/Midna fan, but in a canon setting, I don’t think it’s possible for Link and Midna to be together, whether they have feelings for each other or not. That said, any immature whining about Zant/Midna will be ignored completely. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. It’s that simple. Don’t clutter up my comment space with complaints!
