STUDIES FOR KING’S DOMINION

Background Info: The trouble in Dawn’s Edge and the reason for Midna’s betrothal to Xiris.

Dawn’s Edge, as you will learn in King’s Dominion, is a city located at the furthest eastern edge of the Twilight Realm, and well out of King Heresz’s immediate jurisdiction. Count Lysith’s family has governed over it for many generations. Unforunately, Lysith himself has not been taking his duties as count to heart, and the city has suffered because of it. Many of its citizens are in poverty, and the overwhelming amount of crime is more than the local authorities can deal with.

King Heresz heard that the city was falling on hard times, and made an offer to annex the city’s local government with his own in order to restore economic stability and clear the streets of criminals. However, Lysith is a proud man and would not just hand over his family’s seat so easily. As the problems in the city grew worse, Heresz became more irritable with Lysith, eventually threatening to take his power away by force if it was necessary to deliver his people out of their miserable state. At the last minute, before his citadel could be overrun by Heresz’s forces, Lysith wagered with the king. He said that if Heresz promised his daughter’ hand to his son, Xiris, he would hand over his position without any trouble. His reasoning for this was to keep the power over the city within his family, which was very important to him. Heresz respected his views, offering Midna’s hand under one condition: that Lysith raise his son to rival any prince when it came to grooming, combat skill, and, most importantly, literacy and education.

Lysith quickly agreed to this, and the deal was made. No violence, no hard feelings. Just a really, really, really crappy choice for the kingdom’s next king.
